This was an internal comp designed to encourage Members to discuss and brew a style they hadn't tried before and to enter the beers in Pale Ale Mania and Vicbrew. Congratulations to:

Club Oktoberfest - 26 September 2007

Worthogs Pale Ale Mania - 5 August 2007

Westgate Stout Extravaganza

Westgate Stout Extravaganza was held at Bells Hotel Brewery, Corner Moray and Coventry Streets, South Melbourne on the 8 July.

Congratulations to:

  • Greg Crellin who won the Porter Category with a Brown Porter; and
  • Hans Neilsen who placed 2nd with a Robust Porter

There was an increase in the number of entries from Melbourne Brewers and Melbourne Brewers finished 2nd in the Best Club Award. This can be contributed to the Club Porter Brew.


Club Brewer of the Year trophy - The Old Dick

The Club Brewer of the Year trophy, The "Old Dick", is awarded to the brewer who accumulates the most points during the year (1 July to 30 June) at:
  • Vicbrew endorsed home brew competitions (Stout Extravaganza, Pale Ale Mania, Oktoberfest, Beerfest, Vicbrew and the Australian Amateur Brewing Championships/Nationals); and
  • Melbourne Brewers Club Brew competitions
Three points are awarded for 1st place, two for 2nd and one for 3rd. 1 point is also awarded for Champion Brewer, Best Beer in Show, Best Novice prizes.

The Old Dick is presented at the Club Annual Dinner each year.
